Marian Wright Edelman has been a lifelong advocate for the disadvantaged worldwide. Under her leadership, the Children’s Defense Fund has become one of the strongest known voices for children and families. Its mission is to "leave no child behind" and to ensure every child a "healthy and fair" start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. Her writings include Families in Peril: An Agenda for Social Change; The Measure of Our Success: A Letter to My Children and Yours; and I Can Make a Difference: A Treasury to Inspire Our Children.
